Equity Group Foundation through the Energy and Environment Pillar supports programs that aim at increasing access, adoption and usage of clean energy technologies and environmental conservation in Africa. The focus is on households, institutions and industries as part of climate change adaption, mitigation and building resilience.
EGF is addressing the environmental challenges faced in Africa by increasing awareness of the benefits of transitioning to cleaner technologies We facilitate access through innovative financing to acquire the technologies that reduce carbon dioxide and methane emissions while positively impacting peoples’ health and incomes. Our main areas of focus include renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate smart agriculture, water & sanitation, circular economy, waste management and environmental conservation through afforestation and green buildings.

The EcoMoto Program
EcoMoto is a program that enables households to access clean energy products for cooking and lighting through various platforms and channels including mobile devices.
Institutional clean energy program
Over 90 percent of the learning institutions in Kenya rely of firewood as their primary cooking fuel, consuming over 10 million trees per year. Equity is championing clean energy transitions in learning institutions in order to conserve the environment and improve health outcomes.
Environmental Conservation - Tree Planting
Equity is committed to planting 35 million trees by 2024 as part of the efforts to conserve the environment and supporting the government’s efforts to increase the forest cover to 30% by 2027.
Circular economy
Waste management is a critical part of climate action. Significant amount of waste usually ends up in polluting landfills contributing to increase in dangerous greenhouse gases. Equity provides financing and linkage to credible technical partners in waste management ecosystems.
Water resource management
With climate change, water resources are becoming scarce which has adirect impact on food security, health, human conflict and hygiene. Equity is promoting and financing water harvesting and storage initiatives to enable farmers and households to store rainwater, develop underground water resources, develop water infrastructure and promote efficient utilization of water.
