Harold Mate

Harold holds an M.Sc. in Agribusiness Management from Kenyatta University and a B.Sc. in Horticulture from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), where he is also pursuing a Ph.D. in Sustainable Entrepreneurship.

He is a seasoned project management and development expert with over 19 years’ experience leading transformative initiatives across Sub-Saharan Africa. His work spans agriculture, food systems, market systems development, private sector engagement, Agri-SME support, and climate resilience.

Before joining Equity Group Foundation, Harold managed complex donor-funded portfolios with leading global organizations, including UN agencies, CGIAR bodies, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation. He brings deep expertise in grant management, donor compliance, smallholder commercialization, agricultural market systems, and Agri-MSME development.

Harold is known for his strategic leadership, results-oriented approach, and ability to foster impactful partnerships across public, private, and development sectors. His academic and professional journey reflects a strong commitment to building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems across Africa.

At Equity Group Foundation, he provides strategic leadership in Food and Agriculture, driving initiatives that enhance productivity, strengthen value chains, promote climate-smart agriculture, and empower smallholder farmers to achieve sustainable livelihoods.
